Highlights of Friday


Jeff Kaufman, manager of Sugar Loaf Farms, Stauton, Va. The operation includes 200 registered cows and 200 commercial cows nestled in the green hills of the Shenandoah Valley.


The second day of the 2004 National Angus Conference Tour began with a stop at Sugar Loaf Farms. Participants weathered a light rain to view the operation's display.

Mark Duffell, Whitestone Farms, Aldie, Va., welcomed guests to the Friday noon stop. Whitestone is home to 500 registered and 150 commercial Angus cows.


Whitestone Farms had a group of bulls, cows, heifers and calves on display for participants to evaluate.

Secretary of Agriculture Anne Veneman was the keynote speaker at Whitestone Farms, updating producers regarding current issues in Washington, D.C.

Jim Wylie welcomed the tour participants to Lazy Lane Farms, Upperville, Va. Lazy Lane is a purebred Angus operation complimented by a thoroughbred horse program.

While at Lazy Lane, participants had a chance to view their horse stables and training barns.

Lazy Lane, which won the 2001 Angus Journal Land Stewardship Award, was the third stop during the rainy afternoon tour.

Nick Wehrmann welcomed guests to Wehrmann Angus, New Market, Va.

Wehrmann Angus hosted the final stop on the two-and-a-half day National Angus Tour. A sampling of the Wehrmann's herd was on display.
