Knoll Crest Farm Inc. is a multi-breed operation that strives to produce sound, functional cattle that can live in a fescue-based environment.

James D. and Barbara Bennett, along with their sons and their wives, Paul and Tracy, Jim and Annette, and Brian and Cara, own Knoll Crest Farm Inc., located in Virginia’s central Piedmont area. Paul manages the cow herd, Jim is in charge of growing forages and other feeds, and Brian handles recordkeeping and the purchase and maintenance of equipment.

The multi-breed herd includes about 300 registered Angus cows along with Gelbvieh and Polled Hereford. The operation was started in 1944, and Angus cattle were included in 1991 to meet the demands of the Bennett’s bull customers.

Knoll Crest works to develop cattle that will work in a fescue forage-based environment. They market their bulls in two sales a year, once in December and again in April.

The Bennett family managed the Virginia Beef Cattle Improvement Association’s Central Bull Test, under contract, from 1971-1998.

All members of the Bennett family have been leaders in numerous organizations on the local, state and national levels. Paul says local cattlemen’s associations are a resource that allows them to exchange information and be a team player in the beef industry.

Knoll Crest has been honored twice as the Beef Improvement Federation Seedstock Producer of the Year, once in 1978 and again in 1998.
